Todos los años, el jueves
santo a las 22:00h se cele-
bran los actos de la Pasión de
Semana Santa en la PlazaMayor
de Verges. Uno de los momentos
más esperados es la representa-
ción de la espectacular y famo-
sa „Danza de la Muerte“ por los
callejones de la localidad. Sobre
las 00:00h empieza realmente
la procesión por los callejones.
Corremos hacia una calle y nos
situamos bien para ver la danza:

finden auf der Plaça Major in
Verges Passionsspiele statt. An-
schließend bewegt sich der spek-
takulär berühmte Totentanz als
Prozession durch die Gassen des
Örtchens.
Gegen 24.00 Uhr formiert
sich das Spektakel zum Pro-
zessionszug. Wir sichern uns
schnell gute Plätze in einer en-
gen Gasse. Die Prozession ist
eindrucksvoll. Die Toten tanzen,
die Römer schwingen die Lanzen
und die Büßer sind unter spitzen
Mützen getarnt. Auf Blumen ges-
chmückten Wagen rollen die
Heiligen vorbei. Jesus schleppt
schwer am Kreuz, und einige
Mädchen tragen mühsam die
Maria auf ihren Schultern. Die
schmückenden Blüten duften
betörend. Das Schauspiel ist von
eigenwilligem Reiz. Die Kulisse
der mittelalterlichen Fassaden
des Ortes unterstreicht die Dra-
matik. Alle Bars und Läden von
Verges haben die Nacht über
geöffnet. Der Ort vibriert.

adornadas con flores en las que
pasan los santos. Jesucristo se ar-
rastra con su cruz y varias niñas
cargan con dificultad la Virgen
María en sus hombros. Todo el
espectáculo es fascinante. El dra-
matismo viene acentúado por el
montaje de las fachadas al puro
estilo medieval. Todos los bares
y tiendas de Verges permanecen
abiertos la noche
entera. Verges tiembla.

The procession is amazing; the
dead are dancing, the Romans
are whirling around their spears
and the penitents are hidden by
large, pointy hats. The saints are
sitting on carriages, crowned
with flowers, while Jesus is car-
rying the heavy cross.
A few girls are lugging Maria
on their shoulders. Temptingly,
the flowers’ fragrance wavers
through the night. The proces-
sion is of a peculiar yet intrigu-
ing beauty, the medieval setting
of the village adding to the dra-
matic atmosphere.
All bars and shops are open
through the night. The village is
vibrating.
VERGES
